Carrycot vs. Car Seat – Which is best for you and your baby?

Posted October 19, 2011 by Sally. Filed under Blog.

If you’re like me, you are in and out of your car all day, often bringing baby along with you.  Why bother pulling the carrycot out of the trunk, taking baby out of his car seat and putting him into it, just to run a quick errand?  And then to do the reverse to get it (and baby) all back into the car!  In fact, why even bring the carrycot, an additional part, with you?

Popping the car seat out of its base in the car, and into the car seat adapter in your stroller is so much easier, right?  Saves a ton of time and doesn’t disturb baby – especially if he’s sleeping!  So the car seat with adapter is the best option, right?  Convenient for mom and baby.

But is it really best for baby?

Doctors agree that the best position for baby is laying flat.  It’s best for his spine (his bones haven’t fully developed) and for his breathing.  So it seems that a carrycot is the answer.  And most Europeans would concur.  Carrycots are the preferred method of newborn transportation across the pond.

Unfortunately mom’s convenience and baby’s comfort don’t seem to go hand-in-hand here.  So what is the answer?  What do you think is the best way to transport baby, carrycot or car seat?

Carrycot! What right do we have to consciously impact our children’s development?!
